painting elective
In two weeks of painting elective i worked on paintings of instalations.I felt this was quite successful. i chose a section of the instalation through viewfinder, then did thumnails ,decided on best composition blocked in colour from background to foreground in that order, then went back and finished painting within three hours again working from background to foreground. I also did live painting in tonal study.I did electives in printing and ceramics.Printing wasnt very successful as i felt I couldnt do what needed to be done properly from the wheelchair.I thought i would love ceramics but im afraid it didnt sit right with me. So I choose painting for the ranking. This didnt go as well as i hoped. I felt iwas hopping too much and not focased on one theme. So i did second ranking in painting and I focased on the theme of old age. Here did a number of ink and coffee paintings. In the beginning I found them quite challenging, but i went back and looked at David Hockney in the way he joined photographs together this helped me with my compositions. My paintings became way more interesting and challenging and successful. I did live painting Did mark making with different mediums.I particurally liked the mark making done on the card that was treated with the pva glue. It gave great texture and made the piece way more interesting. I looked at a number of artists such as John Virtue, Chantell Joffe, Wilhelm Sasnal, James Rielly,Don Barchardy,Joseph Beuys and Chuck Close. I was very pleased with myself after second ranking.
